Role Overview
General Objectives of the Contract
The consultant will be responsible for developing and facilitating Master Program and Post-Graduate Certificate courses in alignment with UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) and partner institutions’ quality assurance frameworks. This role requires expertise in e-learning course design, assessment development, grading, and facilitating engaging online learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant for Online Learning and Education, your primary duties will include:
Curriculum Development & Course Design
- Develop comprehensive course outlines, including learning objectives, structure, and thematic content for Master Program and Post-Graduate Certificate courses.
- Design engaging and interactive course materials aligned with UNITAR’s quality assurance requirements.
- Ensure course content reflects best practices in online learning methodologies, including blended learning, social constructivism, and interactive pedagogical approaches.
Assessment & Evaluation
- Create both formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning at ISCED level 7 (Master Program level).
- Grade assessments based on UNITAR and partner institutions’ grading policies and frameworks.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to enhance learning outcomes and engagement.
Facilitation & Student Engagement
- Design and implement synchronous (live sessions, webinars) and asynchronous (discussion forums, interactive content) learning activities to foster student participation.
- Utilize Moodle and other Learning Management Systems (LMS) to manage courses effectively.
- Monitor student progress, answer queries, and facilitate discussions to enhance the learning experience.

Collaboration & Quality Assurance
- Work closely with UNITAR and partner institutions to align course content with academic standards.
- Integrate feedback from stakeholders and academic experts to enhance course materials.
- Ensure that learning resources remain current, relevant, and aligned with global educational trends.
Who Can Apply?
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements:
- At least a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Education, International Relations, Peace and Security, Humanitarian Studies, Political Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
Professional Experience:
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in academia, preferably in teaching, course development, or instructional design.
- Proven expertise in developing, implementing, and facilitating online learning courses at the Master Program level (ISCED level 7).
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly Moodle.
- Strong background in at least one of the following thematic areas:
- Peace and Security
- Humanitarian Action and Peacebuilding
- Humanitarian Development and Peacebuilding
- The Triple Nexus Framework
- Electoral Policy and Administration
- Climate Security
- Global Sustainability
- Leadership for Sustainable Development
- The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Gender’s Role in Peace Facilitation
- Experience working in international organizations, NGOs, or academia is an advantage.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of instructional design principles and online pedagogical approaches.
- Ability to create interactive and engaging e-learning content using multimedia tools.
- Excellent writing, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project management tools, and educational technology platforms.
Language Proficiency:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of other United Nations languages (such as French, Spanish, Arabic) is an asset.
