Office/Unit/Project Description

The Research and Coordination Associate will join UNDP’s efforts in Jordan, particularly in supporting sustainable development and humanitarian responses, including the Syrian crisis. Collaborating closely with the European Union, UNDP aims to enhance the social and economic well-being of vulnerable populations, including refugees. The project emphasizes effective funding management, institutional capacity building, and alignment of international commitments with national priorities.

Key objectives include strengthening coordination within the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC) to manage Humanitarian, Development, and Syria Crisis Response (HD&SCR) efficiently. This involves enhancing capacities in the Foreign Funding Unit (FFU) and Humanitarian Relief Coordination Unit (HRCU), alongside broader aid coordination efforts through empirical data, research, and policy analysis.

Scope of Work

Research:

  • Conduct research supporting sustainable development, humanitarian efforts, and responses to the Syrian crisis.
  • Assist in the implementation of research studies, including data collection, statistical analysis, and economic modeling.
  • Support ODA research in collaboration with the ODA Reporting Specialist, contributing to aid impact assessments and aid classification methodologies.

Coordination:

  • Provide business planning support to the HRCU and FFU, ensuring high-quality inputs for initiatives.
  • Coordinate with think tanks and economic advisors to produce policy papers addressing sector vulnerabilities and gender inequalities.
  • Strengthen partnerships, communication, and ODA diplomacy efforts to align aid with national priorities and international commitments.

Reporting:

  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports on research findings, project progress, and humanitarian funding.
  • Ensure timely submission of reports to relevant stakeholders and donors.
  • Support the development of foreign funding reports, factsheets, and policy briefs for informed decision-making.

Management Support:

  • Assist in financial management, budgeting, and procurement processes related to the project.
  • Facilitate project execution, including logistics for meetings, consultations, and travel arrangements.
  • Monitor and evaluate project activities, ensuring compliance with UNDP and donor requirements.

Institutional Arrangement

The Research and Coordination Associate will report to the Governance and Peace Pillar Team Leader at UNDP Jordan, working closely with project teams at UNDP and MoPIC. This collaborative setup aims to enhance strategic coordination, knowledge sharing, and operational effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of secondary education is required; a degree in economics, Development Studies, Research, International Relations, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or related fields is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years (with secondary school degree) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience in humanitarian and development research, coordination, or related fields.
  • Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, database management, and web-based systems. Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex data. Understanding of humanitarian relief coordination, foreign funding processes, and economic policies related to refugees.
