Associate Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements
Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is dedicated to promoting socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the aim of ensuring adequate shelter for all. This position is situated in the Regional Programme Division at UN-Habitat headquarters in Nairobi, reporting directly to the Director of the Regional Programme. The incumbent will be tasked with various responsibilities outlined below.

Responsibilities
- Client Engagement: Collaborate with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects.
- Programme Monitoring: Monitor and analyze specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation, identifying issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Documentation and Coordination: Review relevant documents and reports, identify problems, liaise with relevant parties, and coordinate follow-up actions with regional and country offices.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct basic research on selected aspects of programmes, operations, and activities, collecting, analyzing, and presenting statistical data and other information from diverse sources.
- Policy Support: Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including analyzing emerging issues and trends, and participating in evaluations or research activities.
- Consulting Assistance: Assist in performing consulting assignments by planning and facilitating workshops, interactive sessions, and developing action plans for change management.
- Data Management: Design data collection tools, review and analyze responses, identify problems/issues, and prepare preliminary conclusions.

- Written Outputs: Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, such as draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports, and studies.
- Meeting Support: Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative meetings and conferences, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, and handling logistics.
- Outreach and Training: Undertake outreach activities, participate in the development of training workshops and seminars, and make presentations on assigned topics/activities.
- Field Missions: Participate in field missions, providing substantive and administrative support and assisting in data collection.
- Budget Coordination: Coordinate activities related to budget funding, including programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, and financial statements.
- Partnership Development: Identify opportunities for new programme/project development, joint programming with UN agencies, and strategic partnerships.
- Division Coordination: Support the coordination work of the Division, including organizing meetings, collecting country profiles, writing reports, and other ad-hoc coordination tasks.
- Data Analysis: Contribute to the collection, analysis, and visualization of data to support data-driven planning, decision-making, and reporting.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as required.

Education
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in social science, business administration, management, international relations, economics, urban development, or a related field. A first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Work Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration, or a related area.
- Experience in project development, coordination, implementation, and monitoring in the area of sustainable urban development at the regional and/or country level.
- Programming experience with Integrated Development Environments in a UN entity or international organization.
- Experience in information and data collection, analysis, documentation, and administration is desirable.
- Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable, particularly for candidates who have successfully completed the Young Professionals Programme (YPP) or held a P-1 position with a related degree.
Languages
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview.
