United Nations Org. Setting and Reporting The position is located within the United Nations Liquidation Entity (MINUSMA), Bamako. The Generator Mechanic reports directly to the Chief Operation Unit. S/he is required to supervise all maintenance and construction tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities Within the framework of the Engineering Section/Unit, the Generator Mechanic will perform the following duties:
- Represent Engineering Section during the refueling of generators.
- Record generator operating hours after each periodic maintenance.
- Check battery electrolyte specific gravity by using a hydrometer. Carry out physical inspection of fluid levels (Engine Coolant, Diesel Fuel, etc.).
- Maintain records of all generator’s spare parts in the workshop mini store.
- Control all the workshop tools, batteries, and lubricant signed for and kept in the mini stores.
- Keep an accurate record of all repairs and maintenance done on generators.
- Assist in carrying out periodic and preventive maintenance of all generators within the mission operational areas as required.
- Prepare material requests for the signature of Officers coming from the Team Sites.
- Implement all safety and environmental codes and practices relating to repair and testing of construction works assigned.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning, and decision making.
- Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Perform other duties as required.
Competencies Professionalism: Knowledge of construction and maintenance of various types of buildings, prefabricated buildings, minor electrical installations. Ability to diagnose problems and recommend solutions in installation, repair maintenance of all types of buildings. Capable to replace faulty spare parts in construction and able to guide daily workers for construction and maintenance works. The ability to perform analysis, modeling and interpretation of data in support of decision-making. Shows pride in work and in achievements. Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter. Is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results. Education High school diploma or equivalent.
Job-Specific Qualification Technical or vocational certificate in construction trade is desired. A valid national driving license is desirable. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases is desirable.
Work Experience A minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in power generation field is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in French is required; and knowledge of English is desirable.
Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

- This Position is temporarily available within the UN Liquidation Entity (MINUSMA) until 30 November 2024, subject to budget approval. If the selected candidate is an internal staff member of the UN Secretariat, the selection will be recorded as a temporary assignment.
