Save the Children’s Department of Global Health (DGH) plays a crucial role in addressing a wide array of health challenges facing children worldwide. With expertise spanning reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health, nutrition, HIV/TB, and various cross-cutting areas such as social and behavior change, health systems strengthening, WASH, and urban health, the DGH is at the forefront of efforts to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. In line with this mission, Save the Children is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Senior Advisor, Global Health Technical Proposal Writer. This position will contribute significantly to expanding global health programming by leading proposal development initiatives and leveraging Save the Children’s extensive program experience and technical thought leadership.
Role Purpose:
As the Senior Advisor, Global Health Technical Proposal Writer, you will play a pivotal role in driving the organization’s growth and impact in the field of global health. Your primary responsibility will be to lead and support proposal writing efforts for both U.S. government-funded and privately-funded opportunities. Working collaboratively with technical and senior leadership within the organization, as well as with the New Business Development staff in the Department for Portfolio Growth and Performance, you will ensure the development of high-quality, compelling, and competitive proposals. By leveraging your expertise in proposal writing and your deep understanding of health programming, you will contribute to Save the Children’s mission of creating lasting change for children around the world.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Program Development Resource Mobilization (90%):
- Lead and participate in capture planning and positioning for assigned public and private health opportunities.
- Serve as the primary technical proposal writer for assigned opportunities, collaborating with the Technical Lead and various Technical Contributors to produce compliant and compelling proposal content.
- Lead the development of proposal outlines and storyboards, ensuring a cohesive and persuasive narrative.
- Write and refine proposal sections to effectively convey the proposed approach and key activities.
- Review background information and conduct stakeholder interviews to identify critical win themes and organizational strengths.
- Work closely with the Technical Lead to gather information and success factors that can enhance the proposal.
- Engage with the proposal team to prepare drafts and respond to feedback from color reviews.
- Conceptualize and design graphics, tables, and text boxes to visually enhance proposal content.
- Ensure compliance with solicitation requirements to maximize the proposal’s competitiveness.
- Serve as a reviewer for assigned opportunities to ensure alignment with Save the Children approaches and donor criteria.
- Liaise and coordinate with sub-partners and prime partners to produce high-quality, competitive proposals.
Strengthen Program Development Capacity and Knowledge Management (10%):
- Collaborate closely with Knowledge Management staff and technical leadership to enhance DGH program development resources, including technical content, capability statements, and project references.
- Identify and strengthen program development tools and systems, with a focus on technical content and materials.
- Support the capacity building of Global Health staff in Save the Children’s proposal processes and standards.
- Ensure that program development resources are effectively archived and accessible on the organization’s intranet for ongoing reference.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least 7 years of relevant experience in proposal writing and health programming.
- Demonstrated record of writing successful proposals and producing well-written, concise technical documentation to support resource mobilization efforts.
- Proven knowledge of USAID and large foundation donor programming and technical procurement procedures.
- Experience in development programming, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams in Africa and Asia.
- Strong time management and organization skills, with the ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time to support capture and proposal development efforts, often on short notice.
- Professional proficiency in the MS Office suite and excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field.
- Professional proficiency in a second language such as French or Spanish.
- Familiarity with large private donor programming and procurement procedures.
- Overseas program work experience.
- Experience with USAID contracts is advantageous.
Compensation:
Save the Children offers competitive salaries based on candidate location:
- Geo 1: $108,800 – $121,600 base salary
- Geo 2: $98,600 – $110,200 base salary
- Geo 3: $88,400 – $98,800 base salary
Please note that salary ranges for candidates located outside the U.S. will be based on the scales of the local employer of record.
