Data Management and Visualization Officer (P2)
Duty Station: IOM Somalia in Nairobi, Kenya
Organization: International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Context:
Somalia is facing complex emergencies requiring effective response coordination. IOM Somalia, through its Emergency and Post-Crisis (EPC) pillar, provides integrated support across various sectors, including WASH, SNFI, CCCM, Health, Livelihoods, Climate, and Durable Solutions. The EPC pillar addresses humanitarian needs, facilitates recovery, and builds resilience among vulnerable communities.
The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) programme supports evidence-based programming through mobility tracking, flow monitoring, and surveys. As a co-chair of the Information Management and Assessments Working Group (IMAWG) and key member of the Internally Displaced Peoples Working Group (IDPWG), DTM helps humanitarian actors plan and respond to needs in Somalia and across the region.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Support DTM with managing databases for assessment and monitoring activities related to movement projections and durable solutions.
- Dashboard Design: Assist in designing and expanding online interactive dashboards (e.g., PowerBI) presenting key data on DTM population and solutions activities.
- Survey and Data Collection: Support durable solutions activities on survey design, assessment preparation, data collection planning and monitoring, and data cleaning.
- Project Document Review: Review DTM Somalia project documents and provide recommendations for data visualizations.
- SOP Development: Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for technical information management processes.
- Capacity Building: Provide training and assist in capacity building for data collection teams on data quality and dashboard development.
- Reporting: Visualize, generate, and produce reports for accessibility, complying with DTM programme standards.
- Information Sharing: Coordinate and track the preparation and dissemination of information products through relevant channels.
- Data Analysis: Use business intelligence tools to interpret and analyze raw data into meaningful information and key findings.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Master’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Media, Social Sciences, or related field with two years of relevant experience, or
- University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant experience.

Experience:
- Research and analysis in emergency and transitional contexts.
- Managing and utilizing business intelligence (BI) software (e.g., PowerBI) for analytics, data mining, and visualization.
- Advanced data visualization, presentation, and information design skills.
- Field experience in survey coordination.
- Working in international organizations and humanitarian contexts.
- Knowledge of migration, displacement, humanitarian assistance, climate fragility, and durable solutions.
Skills:
- Data collection methodologies understanding.
- Ability to manage and coordinate remote teams.
- Advanced Power BI knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and enterprise database systems.
- Experience with mobile data collection software (KoBO, ODK, ONA).
- Knowledge of data protection guidelines and principles.
- Knowledge of the region is an advantage.
- Adobe InDesign proficiency is an advantage.
Languages:
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
- Working knowledge of Somali is an added advantage.
