Role Overview
UNICEF Brazil, with its main office in Brasília and nine field offices, collaborates with national and sub-national governments, corporate partners, youth groups, and civil society organizations. The Communications Officer will be based in Belém and will work under the supervision of the Communication Specialist. This role is critical in supporting the lead-up to COP30 and new climate-related initiatives. The incumbent will focus on creating and implementing advocacy and communication strategies that highlight children’s and women’s issues, with a special emphasis on the Amazon region.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advocacy Strategy
- Develop and implement an advocacy plan leading up to COP30, including initiatives like the Youth Conference and Green Rising.
- Raise public awareness and political support for UNICEF’s mission and objectives in Brazil, particularly in the Amazon region.
- Mobilize society to address the climate crisis and its impact on children.
2. Communication Strategy
- Produce and follow up on communication materials to support national communication strategies, regional and global campaigns, and resource mobilization.
- Ensure timely execution of communication products as outlined in the work plan.
3. Media Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets across print, TV, radio, and digital platforms.
- Provide professional support in drafting and managing media content to expand the reach of UNICEF’s story in Brazil.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation
- Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation activities to measure the impact of communication efforts.
- Prepare and share results and reports to ensure continuous improvement.
5. Partnerships and Special Events
- Maintain and expand the Country Office’s contact list of key stakeholders, including government, UN, bilateral partners, and civil society.
- Engage these stakeholders in special events and activities that further the goals of UNICEF’s programs in Brazil.

Qualifications
Education
- University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of one year of professional experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or digital media.
- Demonstrated strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Experience with UNICEF, other UN agencies, or international NGOs is an advantage.
- Experience working in the field is considered an asset.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in Portuguese and English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
