About the Role:

The Executive/Associate, Development Impact – Investments, ITS, will play a pivotal role within the Development Impact – Imbedded Industries, Technologies and Services team (DI – ITS). Reporting directly to the Head of Development Impact Head – ITS, this role involves assessing the potential impact of investments and ensuring the effective achievement of impact objectives. The position also entails managing investments to enhance impact, developing strategies for the sector, and supporting the wider Development Impact team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing Development Impact: The incumbent will be responsible for assessing development impact during origination and due diligence processes. This includes conducting comprehensive impact assessments, collaborating closely with the ITS investment team, and defining impact objectives.
  • Impact Monitoring and Management: Developing impact dashboards and monitoring plans for investments will be a key aspect of the role. This involves collecting impact metrics to track the actual impact of investments, analyzing data to evaluate performance against development objectives, and implementing necessary course corrections to enhance impact.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Relationship and stakeholder management, both internal and external, are crucial responsibilities. The successful candidate will act as the contact point for the relevant sector team within ITS, engage with investees on impact management activities and data, and ensure effective communication of priorities and changes to internal teams.
  • Strategic Development: Supporting the delivery of BII’s objectives in Nigeria is another important aspect of the role. This includes playing a key role in ensuring that Development Impact is well-represented locally, contributing to the development of sector-specific strategies, and fostering strategic links, networks, and partnerships.

About You:

The ideal candidate should possess a combination of strong work experience, academic credentials, and relevant skills, including:

  • Work Experience: A strong track record of work experience in a relevant field, with experience in managing impact processes or systems within a Fund/Foundation, an impact manager within an investment setting, or a background in development impact assessment with a private sector mindset.
  • Academic Credentials: Strong academic credentials, preferably including a Master’s degree in Economics, MBA, Development Economics, or equivalent analytical postgraduate degree.
  • Regional Experience: Experience working in developing countries, preferably in South Asia or Africa, is highly desirable.

  6. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to articulate complex development impact scenarios accurately and concisely, and communicate effectively across a range of cultural backgrounds.
  7. Self-Starter Mentality: Demonstrates a proactive approach to work, with a bias for action and a problem-solving mindset. Able to take initiative and drive projects forward independently.
  8. Resilience: Resilient to time pressures and competing priorities, able to prioritize effectively and make decisions with imperfect information.
  9. Teamwork and Stakeholder Management: Proven capability in effective teamwork and strong stakeholder/relationship management. Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  10. Travel Readiness: Willingness to travel to regions such as South Asia and Africa to support the due diligence process, as well as occasional travel to the Head Office in London.
