The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. The Pension Fund pays benefits in 17 currencies to more than 80,000 beneficiaries who reside in 190 countries, and services more than 140,000 participants who work in the 24 member organizations of the Pension Fund.
The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA) comprises about 250 staff from diverse countries and cultures, based across four prominent duty stations (New York, Geneva, Bangkok, and Nairobi).
Responsibilities
- Research: Conducts basic legal research, verifies facts, identifies citations, and drafts statements for review.
- File Management: Maintains and organizes legal reference files, both paper and electronic. Participates in records management initiatives.
- Legal Instruments: Reviews, verifies, and processes legal documents ensuring compliance with guidelines. Updates databases and monitors follow-up actions.
- Documentation: Drafts, edits, and checks specialized legal documentation for accuracy. Manages case files and ensures proper documentation.
- Inquiries: Handles complex verbal and written inquiries, providing detailed information on legal processes and procedures.
- Data Management: Maintains internal databases for case tracking and trend analysis. Generates reports and posts documents on the website.
- Office Support: Provides general office support including drafting correspondence, budget preparation, and meeting scheduling.
- Data Analysis: Assists with data collection, analysis, and visualization for reports and information materials.
- Guidance: Provides training and guidance to less experienced staff.
- Other Duties: Performs additional ad hoc duties as assigned.

Work Experience
- Required: A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in paralegal work, legal assistance, or related administrative services. The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced by two (2) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree.
- Desirable: Experience in maintaining legal records and databases, familiarity with legal research tools, and knowledge of UN administrative policies, procedures, and operations.
Languages
- Required: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
- Desirable: Knowledge of French or another official United Nations language.
Assessment
- Evaluation may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview.
Special Notice
- Appointment: Initial period of 364 days, with the possibility of extension. Temporary assignment for UN Secretariat staff.
