Responsibilities
Emergency Preparedness:
- Assist Country Offices (COs) in risk analysis for early warning and emergency preparedness.
- Help formulate emergency plans and gather best practices for CO contingency plans.
- Collect and analyze data on evolving emergency situations in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
- Organize and conduct training for CO staff in emergency preparedness and response.
Emergency Response: 5. Support COs in initial emergency assistance tasks and verify emergency information. 6. Assist in assessing COs’ emergency and security situations, including needs and priorities. 7. Support COs in implementing emergency plans and identifying staffing and supply needs.
Emergency Project: 8. Support the implementation of CO emergency plans and prepare inputs for appeals and updates. 9. Collect and analyze lessons learned from emergency operations to adopt best practices for longer-term interventions.
Qualifications
Education:
- University degree in social sciences, public administration, law, public health, nutrition, international relations, business administration, or related fields.
Experience:
- At least two years of relevant professional work experience in emergency-related program/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, or administration.
- Developing country work experience and training in emergency response management are highly desirable.
- Experience with UNICEF and knowledge of migration and humanitarian operations in the LAC region are assets.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, or Russian) or a local language is an asset.
