Org. Setting and Reporting:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) spearheads global environmental initiatives, shaping the environmental agenda, facilitating sustainable development within the UN, and advocating for environmental causes worldwide. The Corporate Services Division (CSD) safeguards UNEP’s corporate interests, managing risks, providing modern management tools, guidelines, and capacity building support. CSD ensures UNEP’s efficient management and adherence to UN core values and accountability requirements. This role is situated within UN Environment, Corporate Services Division, specifically within the Green Climate Fund at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Management Officer at the Green Climate Fund Coordination Office, the incumbent will carry out the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Budget:

  • Review, analyze, and prepare the medium-term plan and its revisions.
  • Assist in finalizing cost estimates and budget proposals.
  • Support managers in elaborating resource requirements for budget submissions.
  • Conduct research and provide support for budget reviews.
  • Monitor expenditures and prepare adjustments as necessary.
  • Review requisitions for goods and services to ensure correctness and availability of funds.
  • Assist in preparing budget performance submissions and reports, analyzing variances.
  • Monitor the integrity of financial databases and verify data accuracy.
  • Coordinate with finance and budget staff on related issues.

Claims:

  • Review and analyze payments to third parties, commercial entities, etc.
  • Prepare payments for certified death and disability, contingent-owned equipment, etc.
  • Monitor methods used to remit payments and investigate non-receipt of payments.

Treasury:

  • Assist in daily operations of the Cashier’s Unit for payment transmittal.
  • Review incoming payment instructions and prepare payments for disbursement.
  • Monitor bank balances, investigate complaints of non-receipt, and manage cash flow forecasts.

  • Required: Experience with SAP or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Desirable: Experience in monitoring and evaluation, accounting/financial management background, experience working with an international organization, and one (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related areas.

Languages

  • Required: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
  • Desirable: Knowledge of another official United Nations language.

Assessment

  • Evaluation may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview.
