Global Digital Consultant Position at UNDCO
Position Overview:
The United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) is looking for a Global Digital Consultant to join their Communications and Results Reporting Section. This position is home-based and focuses on backend infrastructure and website stability. The consultant will work closely with external vendors to maintain and optimize the websites’ performance, contribute to content strategy, and support various digital initiatives.
Program Details:
The role involves managing backend infrastructure for websites, ensuring their stability, and working on content strategy and production. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Chief of the Communications and Results Reporting Section and report to the Communications Digital Strategist.
Key Responsibilities:
Website Management and Development:
Coordination with Vendors: Ensure smooth integration of Drupal-based CMS with UN INFO and IMS data systems.
Performance Monitoring: Optimize technical components, perform updates, apply security patches, and address performance issues.
Integration: Assist with the integration of backend technical components with front-end development and editorial teams.
Documentation: Maintain records of backend processes and communications with vendors.
Compliance: Ensure websites meet transparency and inclusiveness standards using integrated open data systems.
Technical Liaison and Governance:
Vendor Liaison: Manage interactions with vendors for website enhancements, hosting, and maintenance.
Governance Documents: Assist in creating and updating documents such as SEO policies and accessibility standards.
Project Management and Oversight:
Data Portal Management: Oversee the interactive transparency and accountability data portal for the Special Purpose Trust Fund (SPTF).
Scope and Risk Management: Handle changes to project scope and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Design Enhancements: Provide recommendations for technical and design improvements for the UNSDG Chair Report and System-Wide Contributions to the SDGs.
Content Creation and Quality Assurance:

Deliverables and Progress Control:
Monthly deliverables will be measured through:
Technical Liaison Reports: Updates on vendor interactions, website enhancements, hosting, and maintenance activities.
Governance Document Assessments: Reviews and updates of institutional governance documents.
Project Progress Reports: Detailed progress on the SPTF data portal, including milestones and challenges.
Quality Assurance Updates: Reports on editorial and technical quality assurance tasks completed.
KPI Reports: Analytics reports on visitor engagement and strategic insights.
Industry Trend Reports: Recommendations based on emerging industry trends.
Education, Experience, and Language Requirements:
Education:
Required: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, IT, or a related field.
Alternative: A first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered.
Work Experience:
Required:
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, computer science, IT, or digital marketing.
Experience managing websites in CMS and backend operations.
Desired:
Experience working with external vendors and developers on platforms like GitHub or GitLab.
Writing and editing content experience.
Experience with the UN System or other international organizations.
Knowledge of project management concepts (e.g., agile, PMP, PRINCE2).
Language:
Required: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
Desired: Knowledge of one or more official UN languages.
