Org. Setting and Reporting

Join our team located in United Nations Field Peacekeeping Operations, Special Political Missions, Service Centers, and Offices. As an Information Systems Officer, you’ll report directly to the Chief of Unit, Information Systems, and lead complex aspects of information systems projects. Your role involves providing specialized advice on systems analysis and design while responding to user requests.

Responsibilities

As an Information Systems Officer, you’ll have a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Project Management: Overseeing projects involving feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development, and implementation.
  • User Support: Providing specialized advice to users, analyzing their requirements, and translating them into new IT initiatives.
  • System Maintenance: Maintaining, upgrading, or enhancing existing user systems, and providing continuing user support.
  • Security Measures: Implementing and monitoring security measures to protect data and systems from cyber threats.
  • Training and Development: Developing training materials, operating manuals, and user manuals, and training staff in assigned IT systems.
  • Disaster Recovery: Participating in the development of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Technology Evaluation: Researching, analyzing, and evaluating new technologies, making recommendations for deployment.
  • Communication and Client Relations: Facilitating communication between the IT unit and its clients, ensuring good client relations.
  • Contract Management: Handling IT contract management and administration for relevant IT services.

We’re seeking candidates who demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Professionalism: Proficiency in information technology/information management, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to maintain assigned systems effectively.
  • Planning & Organizing: Developing clear goals, adjusting priorities as required, and using time efficiently.
  • Client Orientation: Establishing and maintaining productive partnerships with clients, identifying their needs, and matching them to appropriate solutions.

Education and Experience

To qualify for this role, you should have:

  • Education: An advanced university degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of computer information systems or related areas.

Assessment and Special Notice

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview. Successful candidates will be placed on the roster and subsequently invited to apply for field mission vacancies.
