Objectives and Deliverables

The primary aim of the Global Civic Space Fellow role is to contribute to Amnesty International’s global civic space advocacy by engaging with grassroots movements and developing practical strategies to defend human rights. The key deliverables include:

• Documenting grassroots resistance strategies against authoritarianism and civic space restrictions in various regions.
• Conducting research to develop recommendations and tools to inform Amnesty’s advocacy efforts.
• Producing regular written outputs such as blog posts and opinion pieces on civic space issues.
• Convening activists and thought leaders through virtual, in-person, or hybrid meetings to share strategies and encourage collective learning.
• Delivering a final think-piece for Amnesty’s internal strategy and external publication.

The fellowship will allow you to work closely with a global network of activists and thought leaders, contributing to tangible change in the fight for human rights.

Essential Requirements

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Fluency in written and spoken English (fluency in a relevant regional language is a plus).
• Demonstrated experience in working on civic space resistance, either through formal channels (academia, NGOs, journalism, law, policy) or grassroots activism.
• Strong writing and research skills, with experience in publishing related to human rights and civic space.
• No formal academic qualifications or certifications are required to apply, but practical experience is essential.
